I also have been put under the knife back in 1999 to cage two of my lumbar vertebrae. I am now suffering pain in the cervical spine. I have many of the other related illnesses associated with Gulf War Syndrome. However, I was state side never making it over to the sand. I was moved from HHB Divarty to 1st Cav. and prepared for deployment which did not happen. Many of us were prepared with the inoculations and pills to prevent chemical exposure sickness. Has anyone heard of others who had not been in theater getting ill?

I was not in theater and have all the same symptoms. I did receive pre-deployment vaccines for GW1, but I believe I contracted my GWI back in 1980 during the Iran hostage rescue attempt, with 1ST SOW out of Hurlburt Fld, FL, we had all the same vaccines then before we deployed to Egypt and were exposed to multiple insecticides during a 3-week deployment.

I have every single symptom listed by the original poster (justthe2ofus33), have had a neck surgery and am living with several herniated back discs because I don't want any more surgery (messed it up even more). Acid reflux, sleep apnea, skin problems, neuropathy, limb pains, headaches, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain, you name it. I have a claim in with the VA for unemployability, still being evaluated, but I can no longer work.

I tried to claim many of these conditions several years ago and got a 50% rating, but mostly denied. I live in Ohio, and got a letter from the VA afterward that vets in my state had a lower rate of compensation and I should reapply. I went through such a hassle at the OSU hopital in Columbus where they did my C&P that I declined, they treated me like crap. But, I had to go on full disability Nov. 2007, so I filed another claim and am going through the whole rigamarole again. At least now we have the new GWI ruling on our side.
